“It is always very difficult to go against the wind, and to stand up straight and say no,

when the easier path is to give in and go in the direction of the wind.” ~ Ghislain Picard

People who made a significant difference

THIS IS THE MERE BEGINNING OF MY INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES LIST:

I’m beginning the list today, May 25, 2013, after learning that Elijah Harper, Canadian First Nations Politician, died a few days ago, on May 17, 2013. Ghislain Picard’s words, beautifully summarize not only the life of Elijah Harper, but, in my life, the lives and work of Audrey Morrice & Kaye Brock (my Mom), for their advancement of brain rehabilitation, in Canada. Picard’s words also echo my own intent to change the face of photography, photographers, and photographs–to include the discussion of Soul–in every photograph, with every photographer, every client, every person (young & old). Perhaps I shouldn’t be comparing myself to Elijah Harper just yet, but I really love the quote that Picard assigned to Elijah, as I find I’m always walking against the wind, and my life path has never been easy. My aspiration to create change in the field of photography is magnanimous (and high and mighty–I’m humble enough and self-aware to get that)!

I only hope that one day my life will have made a significant difference in how photography, photographers, and photographs, are depicted and evaluated. A small contribution to society and history, granted, but, as an artist, a feat all of its own to attempt to change the course of photography, photographers, photographs, and the history of photography.

I know I will be judged and my work misunderstood, I’m used to that sort of thing. It’s a risk I’m willing to take–it’s just so painful for me to observe what is going on in photography today–with photographers, advertising, portraiture, and the fake depictions of human beings–appearing, for the most part, soul-less. Fake, soul-less portraits, are not the kind of photography in which I’m interested in depicting; it is un-conscienable to quietly stand by and watch it continue, I just can’t bare the pain, it’s excrutiating for me to watch and my Soul is screaming–I am a witness to fake people, faked personas in portraits and advertising, and it makes me feel terribly uncomfortable. It’s time to change the course of photographic history. ~Ellen E Brock
