and that you are more than just your personality, career, and family roles!
PAINTING WITH LIGHT / LIGHT PAINTING – DEFINED:
A creative photographic technique involving:
~ a one-shot, long bulb exposure (a slow shutter speed of usually one second or more involving the use of a shutter release cable or self-timer)
~ a stationery camera (on a tripod, table, the ground, etc)
~ a moving handheld light (light sources: an LED flashlight; a ‘Hosemaster’ which uses fibre optic light; candles; sparklers; fireworks; glow sticks; etcetera! Coloured gels may be used over the light source–as required to neutralize the light colour, or, conversely, as an additional colour effect.)

PAINTING WITH LIGHT IS THE ANTITHESIS OF TRADITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY, REQUIRING:
~ night (if outdoors)
~ a dark room (if indoors)
~ one or more Assistants turning lights on and off for the Photographer!
HISTORICAL ORIGINS OF LIGHT PAINTING:
(Wikipedia)
{2} Photographer and lighting innovator Gjon Mili introduced Pablo Picasso to his photographs of ice skaters with lights attached to their skates (1949).
{4} Cinematographer John Alton wrote a book, titled Painting with Light–on cinematography (1949).
The book’s primary focus is on light and the many complex ways a camera crew can manipulate it for effect.
Alton, who worked on films noir classics, explains how lighting, shooting locations, and various camera techniques can be used to create a visual mood in film. Much of the technical information is now obsolete. (ISBN 0-520-08949-9)
